School Girl Days

Those were the days

When all I had to worry about was whether or not my crush liked me back

The laughter of my friend group exploding out of nowhere

We’d give the cute boys nicknames

“Pineapple” was my guy's name

It seems like only yesterday

The seniors would laugh and say,

“Aww, you have nicknames for them?”

Telling us we’d grow out of it soon

They said live in the moment

For it goes by way too fast

I wish I’d listened

Because one day I woke up

I wasn’t a freshman anymore

Then I wasn’t a sophomore anymore

And once again I woke up to find,

I’m not a junior anymore

I’m no longer that little freshman

I’m expected to know certain things

I’m expected to be a bigger person

Now I see, I’ve wasted too much time

I was so fixated on growing up

That I wasn’t growing up

Just being oblivious to the world around me

Now I’m about to be a senior

Looking a colleges

Trying to get a job

Becoming a legal adult

Emailing recruiters

Life went by so fast

But I’m not a 14 year old girl anymore

I have to worry about college

Finding out what I want to do with my life

And finding my purpose in life

I think it's about time that I finally grew up
