Scouts
Little girls in bright blue,
Came to a meeting - saying the Promise and Law
Learning what they mean
And how to live by them.
They flew up to Brownies, earning their wings.
Full of spirit, little helpers
Learning the buddy system, and doing Try-Its
And making friends.
Then came Juniors, all dressed in green
Getting Bronze awards and badges
And camping with their sisters
After that, Cadettes.
And what started with 24 girls,
is now 12 teenagers with Silver Awards
And the world in their hands
Seniors come after,
Finally running a camp,
And singing songs through the night
And Gold Awards, when their hard work pays off.
Ambassadors are last,
All grown up and seeking new heights.
What started as seeds, have blossomed into a garden
Looking back on their years as they sit around their final campfire.
Seeing themselves on the faces of those bright blue Daisys
Those little girls in blue and brown and green and beige,
Are now grown up, with their dreams in their hands.
Ready to make their own place in the world.
With a sash and some sisters,
Girls become leaders.
From timid steps on the playground,
With new shoes shining in September sun
To sneakers at camp, covered in dust and love
And finally heels at Prom.
Saying goodbye, and singing a song, one final time.
