Scratch, Scratch, Scratch
You hear the same old lecture,
No pain, no gain
They say over and over again.
Too shy to speak up,
"All I ever gain is more pain"
Overwhelming waves
Crashing into you
You can’t make it stop.
They can’t see,
You’re drowning, not waving.
You’re too far out.
They say, just do this.
Done.
Just do that.
Done.
You have to do this and that.
Done and done.
But the screaming never stops.
Endless hollering, between endless day dreams
You try to shut them out.
They scream louder
Not enough, you’re ever enough
Not good
Enough.
Not pretty
Enough.
Not smart
Enough.
Nails against silken skin.
Scratch scratch scratch
Digging for someone new
Someone who is enough.
Digging for answers
To quiet the screaming.
Digging for solace
In your hell.
Only to be greeted by crimson flaming sorrow.
More pain, you’ve gained
That you’ve given yourself.
To quiet the screaming.
The infinite yelling making you
Recede into everlasting fantasies
Wishing day in and day out they were real
Sorry to say
You’re stuck, little girl.
No one here to save you.
Scratch scratch scratch
More dark marks on your arm
Tallying unbearable days and sleepless nights
You give in to unfading cries.
Listening to poisoned words.
Believing poisoned thoughts.
Living in a poisoned world.
That is and forever will be
Your hell.
Scratch scratch scratch
It’s not enough to end the pain this time.
Because
This time is different
This time is too much
This time you
Snap.
