That Scream

That scream,

Was it just me?

Nothing out of place

Not even one face

That scream

Was it some kid?

No pitter-patter of little feet

Nor a toddler in its stroller seat

A graffiti-covered van behind

Tinted windows

That scream

Was it a damsel in distress?

I carried on, nonetheless

Hoping to God that no one

No one was in danger

That scream

May have been imagination

Or a cry of desperation

I could have helped

That scream
