A Sea of White

I hear the laughs and the snickers - I know I am not wanted. I feel surrounded by a vast sea of white. My high hopes for today have been shattered in little bitty pieces. Every head turns as I walk down the hall. They act as if they have never seen anyone like me before. It is like they have been living in their own perfect little bubble. Today I have blighted their bubble. I start walking towards my first class, when my face suddenly meets the floor. My books are all scattered across the ground. I command my tears not to fall; I promised mama I would be strong. I hear someone say leave her alone, she is human too. I choose to get up with my head held high and continue to class. I walk into my first class - the sign says History. I pick a seat, and the people around me take their stuff and move. I sit up straight in my seat - I will not cower in fear. The girl from the hall sits next to me and smiles. It is the first time today I have seen someone smile at me. Girls with mean faces stare us laughing but we do not care. I have a friend now, a buddy to help me when the tears seem near. The rest of the days may be rough but together we will not give up.
