Seamless
The wind is cutting my face, little kids point and stare, and it feels as if I am floating endlessly a drift. I’m at my sharpest, reaction time speeds up as if the rest of the world is slowing down around me. A perfect union of man and machine, whenever and wherever I ride my longboard is the perfect environment. The board is like a holy place and when I ride I find sanctuary from all of life’s woes and I don’t have to worry about the trials of tomorrow.
Corners of bright orange still remain from the original paint job that has since been sullied with the scars of aggressive riding. The deck thirty five inches long and stands nearly four inches above the ground. Beneath the deck rest the trucks connecting the two inch diameter wheels to the deck creating a seamless transition between the rode and myself. My scraped knees and hands sting for days and my legs ache from constant kicking. The pain is worth the feeling when you land a trick for the first time mastering a new set of skills. My friends are with me when I skate and we constantly push one another to new greater heights. When my soles reach the board movement becomes fluid as if I’m surfing the concrete and asphalt, I am in complete control aware of my body, my board, and the path that lies ahead of me.
Life without my longboard is meaningless, I feel as though I am living the same day over and over again, but when I step on the board it fills me with a sense of purpose. The connection to a primal sense of fear and joy meet causing a sensation of thrills, a rush of endorphins and adrenaline. Riding my board allows me to relieve stress in a healthy, fun way. I can let trivial matters escape my mind as I cruise around. When I’m on my board I am being environmentally friendly, at a state of peace, and content with my world open to reflect.
