in search of education
My life lately has been filled with frustration
because i can't afford my education.
Three years ago i graduated,
but still no college: hence, i'm frustrated.
The first two years went by so fast,
i must admit i had a blast.
I went to Chile on a mission,
i got no salary and no commission.
I worked hard and served many,
such humble people with hardly a penny.
I tried to help them find a more pleasant life
in a place filled with turmoil and strife.
I learned that as you strive to help others
you lose sight of race and colors.
I built houses, put out fires and stopped fights,
saved lives, taught truth and spent countless nights
worrying about how to help solve the challenges of others.
But what i did more, is learn to show love to my brothers.
i learned a new language but even more,
i learned to take care of myself but mostly the poor.
finally it came time to go, my time was up.
i was so sad it made my heart erupt.
i came home and I felt deeply depressed.
From my now selfish life to to how i was dressed.
i needed to be in the service of brothers
forget myself and focus on others.
I want to help those with special needs
not just with a poem but deeds.
i must now get a degree
but college isn't free.
i hope that this poetry power
can help me pay for school hours.
the beauty of service i can't explain,
how it feels to ease someones pain.
I know now that there's more to life then myself
my clothes, phone, or money on my bank shelf.
It doesn't matter what i have or how much wealth,
what people say about me or even my health.
Do you know what matters most in earth or above?
the most important thing ... is love.
