The Sea's Sonata

I let music engulf me the same way the ocean engulfs the footprints we leave in the sand. Just like the sand, I showed little resistance and adapted to its movements and challenges. Wave after wave, competition after competition, the music remained as passionate as the sea. The further I got dragged out to sea, the more I realized I dissolved into the sea rather than moved with it. The once melodic waves now felt tormentous as they whipped me around and crashed against me. Every crescendo never being loud enough, every staccato never being sharp enough. But every remark from the conductor being loud enough and sharp enough to make me realize this wasn't music. The grace of the once untameable sea had dissappated as I realized all the waves were controlled and man-made. It no longer felt like I was joyfully wading, but being pulled under and drowned. Grasping for the joy I once felt in music like it was the air I deeply needed to survive. In the end I was left with empty palms and only a husk of a person that had the one thing that brought them joy wringed out of their life.
