The Seasons of Poetry

Poetry is the long winter’s night
The powdery snow ever so white
Poetry is the glittering Christmas tree
And the time spent between you and me

Poetry is that single first bud
The little green things sticking up from the mud
It’s the rain and the lightning and the thunder so strong
And the soft gentle wind singing its song

Poetry is the sun warming my face
Going here and there and all over the place
It’s the cool blue water underneath my fingertips
And the waffle cone with the single vanilla dip

Poetry is the changing of time
A blazing light show without spending a dime
It’s the little kids running and yelling, “Trick or Treat!”
And the pumpkin pie that we all can eat

Poetry is more than just words on a page
It’s more than just voices speaking on a stage
Poetry is the moment we fail to describe
It’s the way that we think and feel inside
