The Second Chance
My life began with extreme adversity. On February 1st of 1996 I entered the world prematurely at 27 weeks, weighing 1 pound and 11 ounces. I had to face the challenge to thrive to survive. My underdeveloped lungs had problems allowing me to eat and breath at the same time. At only one pound I needed to gain weight.
But things started to look up. I began to thrive, and after 3 months Increased in weight and grew in size. The pale color of my skin had brightened , I was finally going home. But on the road of prematurity, I wasn’t in the clear just yet. Although I was home there were still obstacles I had to overcome. I was home on a monitor to alert my parents when I would stop breathing. Seventeen years later I am here with full breath, a strong heart, and all my soul.
So now my call to action is to go to college and become a nurse. Even though male nurses are very uncommon and is seen as a feminine job I also want to ad some diversity to the medical field. I want to save the lives of others and give them that second chance at life just as I had being premature.
