The Secret
The chemists will tell me it’s merely a concoction of Dopamine, Serotonin, and Adrenaline,
The biologists recommend that it’s simply used to reproduce genetic coding and carry on my offspring,
The psychologists will try to convince me that it’s only a sensation of want for another,
But the secret is that there is no explanation as to why I love you, or how for that matter.
You tug my heartstrings and tease my head, play with my mind and toy with my emotions,
But I can’t understand why.
Your words flood my ears with the sweet symphony of compassion and desire,
And yet I don’t know how.
The unwritten notes to songs you wanted to sing linger in the air between our two hearts,
And my unspoken comments disintegrate as the space amidst us vanishes.
You dance with me without music or reason, and hold me through pain and joy.
You do all of this and more,
Because you love me.
