The Secret

People ask me:

“What’s your secret?”

“How do you do it?”

And I only squeeze her hand tighter.

They marvel at Us.

People ask her,

“What’s your secret?”

I watch her from the corner of my eye.

We reveal our secret together.

She can fly.

She flies up every night to bring me

stories from the stars.

And I can breathe underwater.

I swim down, down, down, every night to

bring her stories of the sea.

We meet in the middle,

unfazed by human ideals of love

and desperation for understanding,

marveling at people who ask us our secret,

when they know the answer all along.
