secrets
Twenty years I spent my life living in a home
Oblivious to the secrets that roamed.
Through the hallways and contained in the walls
Held the secrets my family could not speak on their own.
Twenty years I lived my life in home
That felt more like a prison
Instead of a safe haven.
The laughs were forced but the tears were real.
I felt more comfortable in silence than in noise.
Because I knew words weren't being thrown
To slice and dice at the ones I loved.
Twenty years I survived in my home.
On the outside all is perfect
But cross our threshold and feel the secrets.
Pressing into your ears like a single cricket in the night.
Faintly audible and not in your line of vision, yet you hear its silent song.
Strumming its legs in a rhythm only him and god knows.
Thats how the secrets roam in the house I lived in since I was twenty years old.
