Security Blanket

I thought the security blanket I wrapped myself in was made of tougher stuff,

but as it turns out, it's more like lace,

which doesn't really keep me warm.

Usually I don't think there's room for anyone but me in it,

but I was feeling pretty small and he was feeling just right,

like maybe I could make some space for him,

but when I opened my mouth to say so all that came out was goodbye.

When I wrapped myself up, I thought a cocoon sounded safe,

but I'm not a caterpillar or a butterfly,

and now I'm alone in this security blanket with room for two,

and it's smothering me.
