See
I see the desolate sight of unmoving movement
In the ghetto near my home
I see domino players and elderly chess players
Stuck and unable to roam
But most of all, I see what everyone refuses to see
I see a woman yelling at her husband
I see a man swearing at his wife
I see the anger in his face and defeat in her eyes
I see her pull her hair out of frustration
In an attempt to resolve
I see the man’s temple jump, his fist clinched-
And his smile
I look closer at his wife and see she has
A child
An infant
A fetus
Whatever you call it she has something living within her
I turn around and I see people continuing
with their lives
I see children
Laughing
Birds flying
And drug addicts buying
Yet, I see no one helping this woman
I turn around and see the situation has escalated
The man does not look like a man, he looks like
Evil incarnated
The woman is as helpless as a dog locked in a car
In the desert
The man picks up a brick
Laughs a little bit
And hits her with it
Not once or twice
I see three bangs before I close my eyes
Why-didn’t I help?
I see her eyes seeing my eyes as she was asking for help
But I reflected it
I see her eyes begging for action
But I neglected it
I see her eyes dead on the pavement
And I caused it.
