See and Remember

There is a dark place in my mind

it gets smaller all the time.

Days go by, and I think: Maybe,

someday far away

that place will grow again.

But then I see a stranger smile.

I see kids laughing and playing.

I see people pour their souls out in songs.

I see people get up after being down.

I see hope in humanity:

"If they love each other then it doesn't matter that they are both girls."

I see compassion:

"Animals feel just like we do. They have families too."

I see amazement:

"You can do that? That's so cool!"

I see all this and I remember

Life can be great.

And that dark place continues to fade.
