See You Again...
Dearest Grandmother, my loved one, my friend,
Sometimes I do wonder: why must life end?
Why did you leave us, so sudden, so soon?
Yes, sometimes I wonder as I sit in my room.
Your smile was so bright; your heart was like gold.
Your personality so gentle, yet so strong and bold.
I loved every moment we spent, you and I,
Walking together or watching birds fly.
You loved me, I know. Your love never failed
To reach out and touch me, come snow, sleet, or hail.
But there came a time when things you forgot,
And soon your remembering seemed all for not.
Your mind began slipping further each day.
There soon came a point I had nothing to say.
Did you remember me? I didn't really know.
But this thing I knew: that I missed you so.
Present in body, but mind gone amiss;
After all we had known, had it still come to this?
Now you are gone; your face I can't see.
Your hand I can't hold, nor feel your arms around me.
It's been several years, but heartache still stays.
I do sometimes feel like I live in a haze.
It couldn't be real, but has to be true.
Still I must live my life without you.
So now, dearest Grandma, though these words you can't see,
I wanted to tell you. I wrote this for me.
I wrote this for people, both young and old
Who maybe like me no longer can hold
The hand of their loved one, the heart of their friend
And now feel the pain of life come to an end.
Though pain we may feel and tears may abound
Yet there is hope: a peace to be found
In knowing that someday I'll see you again
If now I will choose to serve my Captain;
The One who you chose to follow and love;
The One who still cares; the One up above;
The One who sees each tear and each sigh;
The One who feels my pain and hears every cry.
Dearest Grandmother, my loved one, my friend,
Goodbye just for now... I'll see you again.
