The Seed
It was pleasant to rest for a moment
under the tree. It offered shade
from the harsh summer heat
that encompassed my life.
The tickling tendrils of
breeze-blown grass brought
a smile to my lips as I lay back
pondering the bobbing fruit
that hung over my head
imagining how heavy it would
feel in my hand
how tough the skin would
be as my teeth broke the surface
how sweet the juices would taste
as they ran over my tongue
and into my throat. Yes,
I would enjoy this Apple.
I rose from my bed of green
took it in my hands
gently provoked it from the tree
held it for a moment
entranced. It was not the fruit
that captivated me
but what lay hidden within
that which only I could discover.
The Apple was mine to consume
with my Father’s guidance.
