"Self in 2013"

I stand in the hallway waiting to go to class. People make fun of me as they pass. They say my skin tone is very dark. That I am "black as night" or the color of tree bark. I don't let it get to my mind, as I know people envy me. Because I know who I am and who I can be. My family are the only people with whom I express my feelings to. People continue to clown as I know it's not true. My feelings are hurt but no one has a clue. Real friends that I possess do not bring me down. Them and family make sure I don't frown. I don't feel alone, because I know there are others. The way I let my anger is in the football field. People realize that my true talent is revealed. Here comes school the next day. People pretend to be my friend and I turn away. I now understand who I am and what I am to become. I feel sad for the people who didn't believe me, and now they know it is a rule of thumb. I follow the rule that simply states, "keep your friends close and your enemies closer"
