Self-Aware
A face well known, my brain reckons. Yet who
Upon me gazes? His features reflect
And reveal my own, and still I see two
Images, each my own, nothing except.
In flesh and in hindsight my mind conceives
The bodice within it is held, but naught
Becomes. Seeking self, my choice: thoughts to sieves.
My finer thoughts escape on paper wrought.
The self I see is not the self I feel,
But this dichotomy mingles; becomes
Human common to others, cast in steel,
Socially judged with smart words unwelcome.
My self as wanted seen resides within,
Expression nearest truth is written kin.
