Self-Expectations

I keep on my shelf a pair of shoes.

Every morning and every night, I look upon them with delight,

Hopeing that some day they will be snug and tight.

They look perfect in every way,

Seeming to change from day to day.

But for now I may only look,

For now they will not fit this foot.

But woe the day that I may see,

That they have become too small for me.
