self-love

i have come to the conclusion that the question,

“what do you need to be happy?”

is a trick question.

Definitely.

spent minutes, hours, days constantly asking myself,

"what is something I cannot live without?”

my mind constantly running around the idea that,

something is out there for me,

and me only.

that specific something will complete me.

that specific something will fill the missing puzzle piece.

that specific something will make me feel at home.

that specific something will make me feel alive.

and as I run around this idea time does not wait for me,

time is like my mind, also running.

reminding me that this is silly.

i realize then that the one thing I need,

is myself.

i am my missing puzzle piece.

i am my own home.

i am alive on my own.

i complete myself.

everyday the only thing that is guaranteed, is me.

i’m the one who decides to get back up everyday.

and often times we forget ourselves,

and often times we don’t give ourselves as much credit,

but we should.

i should comfort myself

hold myself tight

know that I am enough,

and never lose sight of self-love.

let's ask ourselves instead, “what can I do to love myself more?”

because I am enough. You are enough.

it’s true, believe me,

the question “what do you need to be happy?”

is a trick question.

Definitely.
