Self Lover

At first you were my enemy

You always sent words of hatred and discouragement my way

It was so easy for you

Easy for you to call me fat

Easy for you to call me worthless

Easy for you to call me unloved

And it was easy for me to believe it

I am ashamed to say I ever listened to you

You never thought about how those words would affect me

Instead of uplifting me, you always let me fall

I fell down deep into your pit of darkness.. until I saw the gleam

Like a moth to a flame, I was attracted to the vibrant light

It told me that I was beautiful

It told me I was capable of amazing things

It told me I was loved

I realized that in my mind, I was both the darkness and the light

I was both my enemy and lover

The more self love I accept, the brighter the light shines through

For I am my life, my light, and my lover
