Self Portrait

Location

I am a longing for summer,

A sea breeze in a mountain town.

Hoofbeats on pavement,

A misfit wherever I go,

Yet somehow,

I belong.

I am nowhere.

Stay nowhere.

Go everywhere.

Always moving,

A memory.

I leave impressions,

A footprint in the sand,

That never washes away.

Changing as the tides,

Dependable as the mountains,

I leave my trail from sea to sea,

From town to town,

I leave pieces of me,

Shaping who I am as I shape the places I go.

I am not a childhood bedroom,

A familiar swing set,

Rotting in the backyard

Covered in weeds.

I am a fresh painted door,

On some new house,

Always open for change.
