self-portrait as a train

Breakneck speeds

Racing and racing

Hurtling towards

Anticipation

Waiting for your stop,

It’s always an hour away

Are we there yet?

My emotions are passengers

On a journey to nowhere.

Happiness spends her evenings in the dining car.

Sadness sits beside her,

Fiddling with food he will never eat.

Fist clenched,

Paranoia stares out the window,

Watching as

The blur of the trees

Begin to blend together.

A perfect picture, waiting to fall.

Passengers pack for sunrises they won’t stay long enough to see.

Unnecessary baggage.

There’s a map next to an empty chair

And railroad tracks are veins in disguise

Connected.

Poison can spread so easily

The map can turn sickly, garish blue in an instant.

Feel the ground moving under your feet.

Is this freedom?
