Selfish Skin

I spent the year in recovery

No, not from a drug-filled accident

But instead by love-filled precedent,

idealiogical, heaven-sent

Empathy was my violation

Agape, Philia, Philia

I gambled out to any and all

Confident that I alone could cure

So now I wear this selfish skin

that those in need will turn away

I learned my lesson, hardened truth:

to get to them eventually

I swear I'll save them all some day

I'll march them home from far away,

a place where all will want to stay

A simple place, a happy place

I'll help them find their paradise

I swear I will.. just not today
