Selfishly and Secretly

We were both so different.

He was an architectural masterpiece downtown,

While I was the old brick library in the historic sector.

He rose up, a skyscraper with windows of perfect glass without a smudge.

I was a one story building with cracking paint, giving shelter to shelves or worn books.

He was the sunrises and the sunsets,

Full of beauty taht would make an old man cry

While I was a stormy day, the sun blocked by the clouds that brought rain down on the old man's head.

He was the first day of spring with green grass and blooming bulbs

While i was a lonely forest of trees with half-melted snow and patches of dead plants stripped bare.

He was everything beautiful and good

While I was almost nothing at all.

He would never pick me when he's surrounded by daisies in full bloom.

I'm just he floundering flower that opened too soon.

I know he deserves something better,

Something that wasn't full of faded covered and yellow pages.

Something that was beautiful rather than skies of gray.

He doesn't deserve a forest of crystallized water,

But rather a meadow of long grass and flowers with strong stems.

But selfishly and secretly,

I hope that I can mean something to him,

Even though he deserves someone who could be his everything.
