Senior Year!

Accomplishment! Relief! Excitement! How everyone else was enjoying Their senior year, While I was suffering No physical trauma, But my home became broken. Together no more were my Dad and Mama Is this the future of a man who has grown? No one to trust or believe? insignificant, alone Home life was already hard Relationships in my family Like a deck with missing cards But I still started every Monday through Friday With English class And my teacher, Ms. Macauley. I had written poetry before But my masculinity got the best of me I finally discovered a way to discretely roar I would keep it a secret. Who needs to keep their work? Me. Regret. Too much regret. I wrote. No one knew I liked that. No one had to Ah the joy of writing what I couldn't say! Things I would never tell, Still I threw every poem away With things getting worse My family crumbling, A chance to reverse this curse So for the first time A poem is leaked. Submitted with pride. I'll refuse to be shameful because of a rhyme Finally! No more regret! But the struggle never ends as College buries my family and I in debt. But because of my teacher, just one person, Someone I did not choose to be in my life, I can see the light, I carry a lighter burden. And for that I must thank her because my senior year turned out to not be a complete failure Being a college freshman brought new challenges Money. School. Resbonsibility. Money. New people. Money. On my own I thrived. No more emotional bandages My situation was a blessing in disguise Preparing me for college and the real world Which is blanketed in evil and lies. With a optimistic mind, I have a strong belief That everyday you can have a sense of Accomplishment, Excitement and Relief.
