Senior Year

What do we do at the end of the day
When summer begins and school is ending
When joy is done and joy begins
It might be time to stop pretending

When I’m alone at night
And everything is bittersweet
And there is no end in sight
And nostalgia makes my heart beat

What do we do at the start of the day
When the woman awakes while the girl is dying
A misty path to wend its way
I hide my fear, but you hear me crying

When there is no end in sight
How will I dare to meet the strangers
And when I’m alone at night
I still hide in made-up dangers

Whose will is it that I go where
And will I ever know for sure
I will wander everywhere
I’ve gone beyond the safe and pure

Hope that I’ll be the one to stare
Breaking the most fragile rules
I may be sent anywhere
Interest will make it cool

What do we do at the end of the day
When summer begins and school is ending
When joy is done and joy begins
It is time to stop pretending
