The Senior Year Roller Coaster
The last first day was finally here, now were the big kids, now were the kings.
We rule the school, we can do anything.
Leaving for lunch and not coming in,
until only we have to, man I love being big.
On weekends we sit by fires not alone,
but surrounded by friends and people we know.
We talk about this, and how it all seems unreal,
this is finally senior year and it’s such a big deal.
Now that we're older we try really hard,
to rekindle old friendships that drifted apart.
Over a beer and a cigarette are minds cling together,
as memories flow that we will remember forever.
As homecoming comes we all want the honor,
of being picked by our peers as our class sponsor.
When I put on the crown the awkward mood has changed,
because now I am slow dancing with the girl of my dreams.
After the dance everyone is excited,
to meet at a house to once again ponder.
As more memories are made I think about one's recent,
and how next year will seem two times as decent.
But as you think about next year, my heart starts to drop.
I realize that next year these memories will stop.
My friends will all leave me, then I'll be alone.
And the only way to reach them is by calling them on the phone.
It’s sad when you think of it, when everyone you know,
is gone in an instant, leaving nothing at home.
Those days are not here though, they are still so far away,
you push all the thoughts that you have every day,
to the back of your mind where they will stay.
on friday’s we all pile into the gym,
To watch the big game and support all our friends.
We yell and we scream until our voices are hoarse,
and when they win we find ourselves storming the courts.
Coming home sweaty to my decorated house,
I find myself smiling with all happy thoughts.
When the baseball season finally starts, my heart fills with joy,
just me and my brothers, just boys being boys.
As the season progresses, my last senior night arrived.
My letter was filled with thank yous and goodbyes.
To all my friends: thank you for never leaving my side.
Growing up together was the greatest and this is my toughest goodbye.
We made so many memories that I’ll remember forever.
Whether it was just sitting in someone's house or going to the mall,
every memory I loved and I will miss you all.
To my parents: I want to thank you guys the most.
You loved me and raised me into the world with so much hope.
I’m optimistic about leaving but also very sad,
I’m sorry about all the things I did that made you mad.
I took you guys for granted, I didn’t know how lucky I was,
to have parents like you guys to help me through it all.
Coffee in the mornings, and my lunch being made,
to helping with my homework almost everyday.
All the advice about college and leaving my home,
you guys helped me through it all, i hope that you know.
I can see my mom sobbing and i tear up as well,
as I finally realize i'm breaking out of my shell.
Real life is coming, but let's not think about that,
because anyway it’s June, damn that went by in a snap.
It’s like time broke a world record in a long jump event.
Almost like I was writing a letter but wasn't finished by the time it was sent.
Finals were here, but I didn’t have many,
taking no classes has paid off plenty.
Yearbook day came, our final hoorah,
where we hang out with friends and play volleyball.
I blinked one more time and the day had arrived,
It was finally here, I can’t believe I survived.
When I walked across the stage I couldn’t help but smile,
I’m a full fledged adult now, i’m no longer a child.
As i go up and hug my family and friends,
I realize that four years of high school has come to an end.
My whole life has been high school, at least up to this point
But now it’s time to go, Let’s leave this joint!
I’m a whirlwind of emotions, happy, nervous, excited, and scared,
To leave the four walls where my soul has been bared.
