September 18

Leaves blow like gold confetti

Spiraling up and down before the indigo clouds

As the first few drops fall down,

Glittering in the sunlight slipping

Through the gaps. We run.

Arms stretched out like wings,

Pounding across the grass,

Scattering swirls of oak leaves with our bare feet.

And tumble to the ground,

Like the raindrops coming now fuller and heavier.

Lie on our stomachs

Let the rain soak into our backs, our hair

And laugh until it echoes

All around this deserted quad,

Laugh with droplets trickling down our faces,

Laugh until everything else,

Hurt, worry, past, future,

Is washed away.
