Serenity

The sand and the waves are at war,

The palm trees shiver,

and the rain of needles pierce my skin.

The clouds cover the dark sky

and the darkness begins to fill my mind.

I become the prisoner of this isolated island;

It feeds on my emotions and my soul.

I gaze into the blurry lines of the horizon and see despair,

but a sudden rush of warmth lingers behind me.

It was the only place on the island that was filled with hope,

It was the only place that shined brighter than the sun.

My mother stood tall with no worries;

Her smile was my food

Her smile was my shelter

Her smile was my hope.
