Serenity
A sudden jolt awakens me
Eyes flicker open
Sand, saltwater, dry air
penetrate my soul.
My forehead glistens with a dew of sweat
That travels to lips leaving a trail of salt
Which is almost unbearable to taste
Sunshine and blue skies surround me
Bold vibrant colors blind me
Blues, greens, yellows, pinks
The types of colors you experience in a vivid dream
That you can’t quite make out when you awake
“Where am I, am I lost in a dream?”
Echoes in my mind
Pushing off the grainy earth
I arise hopelessly
With the realization that this is in fact
Real
Studying my surroundings
“This island is alien to me.”
I can faintly hear a familiar song
A piece of music I shared with someone dear to my heart
The tune builds
I’m lost
Beautifully lost in music
Music which makes my heart dance
The Four Seasons by Antonio Vivaldi rings in the depths of my soul
All hopelessness and worry subside
I turn around and find my loved one playing this piece on one instrument
You see, it isn’t the music alone that provides this oasis of serenity
amidst this unfamiliar island
Rather, the company of the man that holds the keys to my heart
