Service to others

The delicate smile that he wears was a true gift from me.

For I had displayed it first with a determinate glee.

I disregard his status and current situation,

From that simple smile I can see his appreciation.

Oh, I can see his delight; it sincerely warms my heart.

Wouldn’t I want the same from someone if my life fell apart?

Community service is not measured by hours put in,

But rather appraised by hugs from your thankful, new friend.

I do it for love, not monetary compensation.

Understanding their way of life is rare education.

I am truly blessed with my countless opportunities,

So why not use my select talents to help those in need?

I was first taught to give from my compassionate parents.

For their tenderheartedness was so simply transparent.

Annually, we took names off of the church’s giving tree.

Real Christmas joy comes from gift-giving, do you not agree?

No child deserves to think that Santa forgot their presents.

I look at what I stand for, what my morals represent.

I continued to serve through the notorious Girl Scouts.

It wasn’t all about cookies but kept me thinking ‘bout

How every person is truly unique in some way,

And any action was worth keeping away the dismay.

Our differences and opinions would be set aside,

As cultural tolerance can be applied worldwide.

I woke up one day. My mom told me the heartbroken news.

The deaths kept accumulating, and our town’s heart was bruised.

They were our coaches, schoolmates, and certainly family.

We needed a real reason to smile; everyone agreed.

My Gold Award sincerely let the community see

That life is about loving moments not despondency.

For serving locally has a significant impact.

I can directly witness my work’s positive effect.

There is no greater gift than giving to people in need.

It is not merely a gift for them, but also for me.

I adore compensating to the people that helped shape me

And gave me the power to amalgamate others’ diversities.

The delicate smile that he wears was a true gift from me.

For I had displayed it first with a determinate glee.

I comprehend his status and current situation,

From that simple smile I now know his appreciation.

I can see his ecstasy; it sincerely warms my soul.

I hope I’ve impacted others to carry on my goal.
