Sestina "Forget"

There are lots of things I want to forget

Like the billions of times that we’ve met

And all the ways you tell me to see

When I am with you, and you are with me.

I can’t quite describe how I feel about you.

But I know that us “ones” are not meant to be two.

The thought of us two.

Oh I wish I could forget

And finally get over you

I remember we were kids when we met

And when we got older you were cruel to me

So why did I fall for you again? Why didn’t I see?

I feel like I’m floating alone on the sea.

In a boat for two.

I’ve begged for you to come, but it’s only me.

I think that sometimes we both forget

That this second time that we met

We were lonely. That’s why I fell for you.

You.

Oh, why won’t my heart see?

I can’t get past that first time that we met

I long to be with you too.

I always forget

You have never been the answer for me.

Love, come save me.

I say I want you.

Don’t forget love, don’t forget

Or leave me alone, on this motionless sea.

I need you, on this boat built for two

Let this be the third time we met

A long time ago, we met

You were the one for me

You thought I was too

It might be best, darling, if I leave you

Let me go, and then you will see.

You’ll be better without me. Love, please forget.
