set spirits free

Poetry is a way of expressing one’s thought or feelings towards a matter. Poetry is way of breaking the chains and setting spirits free. Poetry has made a significant impact on my life. As I was younger I was always under my mother’s wing, telling her everything that went on in my life, things that she didn’t already know. Such as me getting bullied at school, the boys I had crushes on, and even the way my father’s wife would mistreat me. I told my mother everything; she was more than just my mother but rather my best friend. One day my mother got up, packed her bags and moved to North Carolina. I and all seven of my brothers and sisters trailed behind her, not knowing why we was leaving everything behind. Friends, family, toys and all were being left behind with a bye unsaid. When we arrived to North Carolina my mother pulled me to the side and she told me that she had breast cancer and only had very little time left on earth. I did not understand what breast cancer was or how serious it was so all I did was pray about it. Throughout my mother’s time on earth I stayed under her, I tried to do all things for her without making her lift a finger. We told each other stories, watched movies together and laughed together. Where ever my mother went I was right beside her, even when she was in the hospital bed. One day my mother told me that the cancer had spread to her brain and that she was going to forget everything including my name. I smiled in her face and told her everything is going to be alright but later went to the bathroom and poured my eyes out. I asked the lord why he has to put my mother through this pain. And can he spare my mother’s life. I am only ten years old I do not like seeing my mother go through all this let along knowing that she is going to forget my name. Before my mother went to sleep that night she told me to write, write all my feeling, thoughts and worries. She told me that she will always be there when I write even when she is not hear in flesh, she also said that writing would set my spirit free from all hurt, harm and worries. A year later my mother passed away, from that day one those very words stuck with me, “write, because even when I am not there in flesh I will always be there in spirit”. Poetry means a lot to me because I know whenever I write my mother is right there listing just how she was when she was here on earth. I write because that’s all I know how to do. I write because it sets my spirit free. I write when I am happy I write when I am sad. The main reason why I write is because I know when my spirit is set free, that it is going into the sky’s to communicate with my mother.
