Seven Days - An Excerpt
Has it ever felt like your heart just fucking... stopped? I swear to God that mine stopped for at least a whole three seconds today. They told me about you and I couldn't fucking breathe. It must have been at least three seconds, but then again, maybe it wasn't. It felt like an eternity.
Have you ever felt your world stop turning? Like everything around you is frozen; halted? When those panicked words fell from your mother's trembling lips, I ceased to exist. The world stopped turning, but it was still tilted on it's axis, and I swore I would fall.
And I know you can't be gone. It doesn't make any fucking sense, and I look down at my arms and I know. I mean, we were happy, weren't we? I can't get over the fact that I was with you that very night and I didn't see a damn thing. Is it possible that I didn't sense anything? How could this be hiding behind that
dazzling smile and your big, doe eyes. How the fuck can you hide something like this?
And I'm... confused. I was with you that very night. What could possibly be so bad that you couldn't tell your best friend? I don't understand, and I... I know you can't be gone. It hurts so much.
I'm confused and somehow numb, yet I hurt. And if you are gone, you've left me with this? This was the cruelest goodbye you could have left. I want to get rid of it, cut it off. Anything that might make the jagged edges around my memory of you a little duller.
You smiled as you made a shrine of my skin. You smiled and you laughed, and you sang along with me to every fucking song on your iPod.
I swear we were happy. You were happy. How could you have been anything but?
