Seven Years Old

I was seven when I realized

I was different

I was seven when I realized

I wasn't blonde with blue eyes

I was seven when I realized

I wasn't born with creamy white skin

I was seven when I realized

I had strands and strands of dark course hair running across my arms

I was seven when I realized

That my food was abnormal and gross

I was seven when I realized

That my parents talked different

I was seven when I realized

I would always be judged

I was seven when I realized

I wasn't one of the girls all the other boys chased down in recess

I was seven when I realized

That I was loved

I was seven when I realized

I was different
