Seventeen Going on Old

Here I am

At the cusp of my adolescence

On the brink of my existence

Moving on the path of most resistance

Here I am

Preparing to be thrust out

Into the opaque, suffocating cloud

Of decisions that are screaming aloud

Here I am

Involuntarily chiseling away

All that keeps me safe

All that knows my name

Here I am

At the edge of the cliff

How I jump won't make a difference

I plunge rapidly into an abyss of "if 's"

Here I am

My future is not as far as it is near

Its beckoning is shrill and clear

And here I stand, not as in control

As I appear

Here I am
