Shades Down

She's got her shades on

Hiding behind black rims

A river beneath them

They see shades

They see a person

But they have no idea

She loves rain

A pluviophile

Like music and power

Sometimes she dances

An invention all her own

A new world existing for the beat

A challenge is a promise

A promise to herself that she must win

She loves to be pushed

In a photo you would look at her

You might think she's pretty

But no where near perfect

You might see her smile

And that is all you would see

But aren't most people like that

She desires success

And she wants her parents to be proud

That they will be proud no matter what

A photo is meant to be perfect

You look at someone in the best light

No visible faults

A picture can lie

It can be worth a thousand words

but miss millions more

You can't see anger, bitterness, fear

Your not meant too

You probably don't want to

This girl dreams of snow

Of places, far off lands

Sometimes she lives in a book

When she was young

that was all she did

Read

Another world, amazing people

Secrets, Betrayal, Sword fighting

So much more interesting

She has brothers and sisters

Maybe that is why she loves children

Any child makes her smile

She doesn't really know what she is gonning to do

Medicine, Law

Whatever God decides

She has friends, yet enjoys solitude

Does not always know what to say

But pretends like she does

She can be forgetful

And does not remeber birthdays

But never forgets a face

She does not know if she is funny

But she loves to laugh

And maybe someone else will too

Sometimes she worries

She prays she won't

But still does

She likes to climb trees

Like a child

She's only fallen once

She cares what people think sometimes

Tries to dress a certain way

And has no idea

Other times she laughs like a donkey

She dances her own style

Dares them to join her

That is only when she does not care

When she is comfortable

And no longer knows

She notices the way people walk

Their gait says something about them

Where their going where they've gone

She is more than something to put in a frame

More than another pretty face

And she wonders

Sometimes when she's angry

She will write down words

Until they turn into tears

She has no amazing talent

No one special thing

But thats fine...right?

If you asked her about her childhood

She would say summer

And the Sound of Music

She would say lemonade stands

And sidewalk chalk

Her mom tucking her in

Ladybug hunting

And when they made a snowman out of boxes

And her brother styled her hair

She pushes up the shades of her glasses

Their tinted lenses protecting her from the world

Then she does'nt care

She throws them off

And they shatter as glass meets concrete

She looks up

Her eyes lock with someone else

They don't see green eyes

But Lemonade and Ladybugs

They see Chalk, Haircuts

Trees, and Tears

Stubborness and Snow

I see my own mother tucking me in

Me scribbing down angry words

My brother smile before he cuts my hair

I see sunsets and memories

And I see myself

In fragments of broken shades
