Shadow

Here’s what I am not:

I am not a shadow of my former self.

Shadows can’t accidentally bump into doorframes so hard that they get bruises

and they can’t trip over the feet of someone

who they really wanted to make a good impression on.

Talk about starting off on the wrong foot.

Shadows don’t stutter when they try to tell a joke too fast

trying to reach the punch line

before their audience of one loses interest and walks away.

In the interest of coming full circle

I should probably say what I am,

but to be honest

I haven’t decided yet.
