Shadow

Look, look up at the stars tonight.

Here they are, so beautiful and bright.

One’s in the shape of a bear, yeah that’s right, over there.

But there's only the trees to talk to, otherwise the ground is bare.

The moons light strikes your face and between your brows there is a crease.

As the lights of the car finally cease.

Shrouded by the sorrowful wood, where your love will never be released.

Now you stand alone, a mason, building walls without his grout.

You walk nowhere on this endless route.

A road once traveled by many, now traveled by the few.

And although there is occasionally the passerby, they never notice you.

You are nothing to yourself, but some weak shade.

You sought for love and see how you’ve been repaid.

Now emotions of love leave you in a corner, alone and afraid.

But please I ask of you don’t shut that door.

Don’t be the man with rope, feet dangling above the floor.

There other things for you, and you mean everything to me.

Why do I have to go such great lengths just so you can see.

I was there when you showed us the bear, that night.

I stood by your side as we watched the heavens take flight.

But you never saw me until you turned on the light.
