Shadow

Watching in the distance,

How our lives used to be.

Watching in the distance,

A distant memory

Of what used to be.

We were so happy,

The envy of every couple.

We were so happy,

So in love.

The world couldn’t touch us.

But life got in the way.

The pressures kept building.

We were sinking,

And the dam broke.

Suddenly the untouchables,

Became the touchables.

Our wall crumbled

And I became a shadow

Of who I once was.

You also changed,

And not for the better

Your old self

A distant memory.

So I shall leave,

So you can be happy again.

Find your perfect someone

And flee the sinking ship.

We were once so happy,

We were once so in love.

But now that is a shadow.

Something in the past.

The shadows of happier times.

The laughter, smiles, kisses,

Fade away into the dark

And become the shadows of the past.

Watching in the distance,

How our lives used to be.

Watching in the distance,

A distant memory,

Of what used to be.
