Shadow

You should cover your eyes,

Because I love you-

This world has too much

Hatred, ugliness, violence.

Because I love you

You can’t drown in this darkness-

You need to lock your doors

And close the blinds.

Because I love you,

Don’t answer that phone again.

I am trying to protect you-

I am that all you need.

But the phone held a calm voice,

One telling to break free.

Open the windows,

Breathe the still air-

“Because I love you,” he said,

Open your eyes.

See the world,

Because the colors are more beautiful

When you are floating free.

“Because I love you,”

You deserve to experience life

Without a shadowed face.
