Shadow of the Darkest Noon
Can you cast
A shadow on the sky?
Can you turn the brightest day
Into darkest night?
Can you cover the bright white clouds
With gray and somber feeling
Until even they turn to water and melt
Sobbing on those below?
Can you dull a bright cerulean
And turn it muddy brown
Like the water you played in innocently as a child
Not realizing the implications of stained clothes
And stained skies?
Can you take a few love-torn words
And dash them across the heavens
Until sunshine turns to funeral rain
Marching towards its final breath?
Can you take ‘I love you’
And separate the you and me
With only a four-letter word
But as wide across as the largest sea?
A creek-jump to one
And a world-leap to another?
One standing in the tall shadow of ‘l’
The other trapped in the hole of ‘o’?
Can you turn what once was care
And make it more like ‘care less’?
Until all that ‘care less’ is careless
And you couldn’t care less?
Can you throw the sun away
And bring me back the moon and stars
The loneliest companions one could have
So high up in the Above and Far?
Or would you leave me standing
Staring up at the cloudy evening light?
Wondering if that sun is hidden
Or if my day has been turned into night.
