The Shadow of Despair

"Hopelessness" is the shadow that follows -

That stays near by -

but cowers from the never ending light -

but never fades -- ever -

The stubbornest -- in all existence -- is felt -

and never grows tired -

That could consume the light

That kept the dark away.

I've felt it in the brightest day -

And on the clearest night -

Yet, always in despair,

It asked for everything -- from me.
