Shadow Steps on Water
In this legend of yore
Waves lash the shore
If you were to look out to sea
You would see
An island manifest in light
And those who go near it are saved from their plight
A figure steps through the waves
And any who saw it would be amazed
To see a being so benign
But they cannot see the eyes of thine
Cloaked in shadows
The figure travels
Past the ragged cliffs and the roaring waves
And through a haze,
You, if you watched closely, would see
How far away the figure will be
By the dawn of early light
The figure of legend will be in flight
Across the ocean with no need for a ship
To flee those who are indifferent
To find those who may understand
Something about the land
The land that we live on
Is a distant vision through the throng
Of people, the poison that destroys us all
But it is so hard to find the fall
The fall of the light
The fall of the right
The fall of the earth’s sons and daughters
And the beginning of the shadow steps on waters
