Shadows
These shadows ever surround me
impossible escape from the dark sea
waking every day
hoping for a change
But never evading the shade
How many times will I replay the years?
When will they stop begging for tears
I see the light and walk the line
But the shadows always near
We were companions
convinced they cover my sins
they never mentioned the darker ends
that inevitably appeared
The ones that'd always beg for tears
They make the ugly seem as its not
as a beautiful shifting backdrop
with every moment they grip you tight
and unsuspected cause a fright
who's soul purpose blinds the light
So when you wake at night
and feel the shadows shifting
as you lie and watch the incessant flickering
It's only shadows that you hear
and you'll never relive the darkened year
