Shadows
I can't seem to recall a time the shadows weren't with me.
Since I was born, they were part of my daily routine- there when I awoke and when
I retired to the land of nightmares.
No one else saw them, but the shadows talked.
They saw his infidelity and her greed in the corners only the shadows could enter.
They told me about them. They said mankind is on a thin line.
One day I woke up and didn't realize until noon that the shadows were gone, their
hoarse whispers unheard.
For the next few weeks the shadows did not come. I had hoped, but they never
came again. I wallowed in my solitude.
"I knew nothing but shadows, and I thought them to be real." - Oscar Wilde
