Shadows and Glow
Nothing but white as far as the eye can see,
The knife-like icicles threatening me,
The cold wind howling and nipping at my skin,
The numb feeling tearing me apart from within,
The smell of pristine air,
Leaving me aware
Of the single piece of snow,
And the small, black crow,
Who joins his swarm,
While I find somewhere safe and warm.
Children running about,
I watch as they play and shout,
The bird-song, a pleasant melody,
The chill once here, a distant memory,
Beads of sweat dash down my back,
As ice cream melts, leaving behind a track,
The breeze carries the scent of fresh-cut grass,
As I raise my cold, wet glass,
And steal a quick sip,
I then dive into the pool to take a nice, cool dip.
The cold is an enemy,
A cruel, dark entity,
The sun is a warm hug,
A steaming hot mug,
The former I despise,
Its beauty, a disguise,
The latter I will never cease to adore,
It's a fact I know right down to my very core.
